Draper Cormack Group - the story
Draper Cormack Group is a communications and PR firm that focuses on doing fun stuff.
It began in 2015 when Lou Draper put a message in a Facebook group for communication experts in Wellington. Lou was a sole PR practitioner and her newborn son was in hospital and she needed to be with him. Was there anyone available to help look after her clients for a few weeks? David was waiting to start a new job and had thought he’d enjoy a few weeks off before he started. It turned out he was just bored. So he said he’d help.
David managed her clients and had a few successes over the next few weeks. So much so that Lou asked if he’d like to join her in creating a communications firm. But David was going into his new job and so said no.
Fast forward six months to March 2016, and David was not enjoying his job as much as he thought he would. Over a coffee date with Lou, the two brainstormed their way into creating the Draper Cormack Group. A full suite communications firm that offered everything from media relations, to strategy, to government relations and designing bespoke events.
In just over three years, the company has gone from focusing mainly on New Zealand’s technology industry to working with companies with international footprints and hospitality businesses.
Despite growing their clients and working with larger and more mature organisations, David and Lou still retain the sense of fun and adventure they began with so that it never gets dull.
